CE-Eligible for the AADSM Qualified Dentist Designation:
Dr. Dental, IADMD Foundation, Inc.’s Sleep Apnea Mini Residency and Pain Management Course meets the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine’s (AADSM) continuing education criteria for the Qualified Dentist designation. Completion of the course may count toward fulfillment of the continuing education requirements for the designation. For more information regarding the AADSM Qualified Dentist designation, or to apply, visit aadsm.org.
This is not your average Sleep Apnea or Dental Sleep Medicine course; this is a robust Sleep Apnea Mini-Residency and Pain Management course. Although other For-Profit courses on Sleep Apnea, Sleep Disordered Breathing, etc. may adequately cover subject matter, their credits may not count according to Chuck Holt, Published on October 23, 2017, by Sleep Review; The Journal for Sleep Specialists', "After a year delay to allow applicants time to prepare, the 2018 class will be the first impacted by the new CE requirements."
Objectives:
This Sleep Apnea Mini Residency and Pain Management Course will allow dentists the opportunity to add Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM) and the treatment options of Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) within their dental practices.
Dentists will learn how to properly screen for sleep apnea and gain the knowledge and clinical skills required to assess and treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) seen in a dental practice that may impact the management of a patient with Sleep Disordered Breathing. We will prepare each dentist to evaluate patients, deliver and adjust, in their dental offices, customized OAT for OSA, Sleep Disordered Breathing and snoring. Dentists will be guided in state-of-the-art patient examination techniques, impression and record taking, fitting and adjusting oral appliances that are marketed for OSA, Sleep Disordered Breathing and more. Objectives further include the following:
- Basic physiology of normal and abnormal sleep of OSA and other sleep disorders.
- Different types of oral appliances used to treat OSA or snoring, and their modes of action.
- Impression and Materials used for OAT and how to take the required bite records.
- Polysomnogram (PSG), Home Study Test (HST) and assess patients before and during OAT.
- Examination of the TMJ and masticatory muscles in the evaluation and treatment of patients with OAT.
- Differences in treatment for adult OSA and pediatric OSA.
- Long-term follow-up care of patients with OAT.
- Adjunct therapy for pain management.
- Practice management, medical coding and billing for OSA, OAT.
- And much more!
Adding Sleep Apnea or Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM) Treatments as a New Revenue Stream for Dentists?
Because sleep impacts every aspect of every person’s health, and, because 1 of 5 Americans suffer from Sleep Apnea, this revenue stream begins at the screening phase.
We have dentists from our residencies that are inundated with referrals from Sleep Physicians as their patients are refusing the CPAP and they want to form a common bond with a dentist educated in Sleep to offer Oral Appliances as an alternate therapy.
With DSM as an added treatment, you can be enjoying your life more; more patients, less stress on your back, all while you can triple your income, live your life as you dream with your career, your hours, and have the honor of saving lives for patients that cannot tolerate CPAP.
